Check-ups and preventive care
A check-up appointment is an essential part of the treatments you will receive at MOND. Once you are included in our database as a patient, you will be invited to schedule a check-up appointment at 6 or 12-month intervals.
How often should you come for check-ups?
The frequency of a check-up is worked out on the basis of your dental risk profile (whether or not you have had lots of dental problems in the past) and will be reimbursed by the mutuality (health insurance fund) up to twice a year. You must book at least 1 check-up appointment per calendar year to continue to enjoy maximum reimbursement amounts thereafter.
We use a reminder system via email, letter or text message to try and remind you about this. However, you must contact us yourself to book this appointment.
What will your MOND dentist do at a check-up?
During a check-up appointment, your dentist will carry out the following:
- Screening of all teeth, fillings and existing crowns or dentures
- Screening of the gums and possibly other oral pathology
- X-rays to assess possible tooth decay, fillings and your jawbone
- Any monitoring and adjusting of oral hygiene practices as needed
- Cleaning of dental tartar and polishing if limited
Check-ups if you have acute dental problems
Are you suffering from an acute dental issue such as a chipped tooth, toothache, abscess, or similar? If so, we would advise you to mention this when booking your appointment. This will allow your dentist to amend the necessary treatment time to ensure that they can address any other issues during the same appointment. If you continue to have your annual check-up at MOND, we are committed as a practice to providing you with a solution within 48 hours if you experience an acute dental problem.
If your teeth require very extensive cleaning – irrespective of whether you need additional anaesthesia – the dentist will probably need to book an additional appointment for this. This is simply so that we always have enough time to ensure we can fully and properly complete our work. It is also how we work together to ensure we operate in a stress-free practice full of satisfied patients and relaxed dentists.
