Sedation using nitrous oxide (laughing gas)

Sedation using nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) can be performed at the patient's request to provide them with a calm and relaxed treatment. It is the ideal solution for patients who suffer with anxiety, children, people with disabilities and those who have a vomiting reflex.

Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a mask that goes over the nose to help the patient relax during treatment.

Nitrous oxide is not intended to put the patient to sleep since the patient will still be able to hear and respond to all of the dentist's instructions. The dentist will ask you to breathe normally through the nose. Within minutes, the patient will feel the effects of the nitrous oxide. They may start to feel light-headed or perceive a tingling or heavier feeling in their arms and legs. Ultimately, however, the patient should feel calm and comfortable during treatment. The effects of the nitrous oxide will diminish quickly once the mask has been removed.

Do you think that nitrous oxide sedation would make your treatment more comfortable? If so, please mention it to your dentist.
